Application for Work Permit

Do you have a job offer? Has your employer obtained a Positive or Neutral Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) related to your job offer? Before you can work in Canada, you must first apply for a Work Permit.
Understanding Work Permits:
For Applicants Outside Canada:

  1. Employer Authorization: Your employer must be authorized to hire a foreign worker and typically must obtain an LMIA, although there are exceptions.

  2. Job Offer Without LMIA: If no LMIA is required, your employer must provide a job offer.

  3. Application Process: You must apply for your work permit from outside Canada. If approved, you will receive a Letter of Introduction, which you must present at the border. Your work permit will be issued once you arrive in Canada.

For Applicants Inside Canada:
If you are already in Canada and wish to apply for a work permit, you can submit your application from within the country. Once approved, your work permit will be sent to your Canadian address.

Types of Work Permits:

  1. Employer-Specific Work Permit: Allows you to work in Canada according to the specific conditions on your work permit.

  2. Open Work Permit: Allows you to work for any employer in Canada, except for those listed as ineligible or those regularly offering striptease, erotic dance, escort services, or erotic massages. Can only be obtained in specific situations.
